Rupert Grint is making a notable return to the role of Ron Weasley, this time on Broadway in the production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. More than a decade after the Harry Potter film series concluded, Grint will take the stage for a 17-week run starting in February 2027. Known for his portrayal of Ron alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson across all eight films, Grint expressed his excitement about revisiting the character.
“Ron Weasley has been a part of me since I was 11 years old and I can’t wait to meet him again at this stage of life,” Grint remarked. He noted that experiencing the character as both he and Ron are now portrayed as fathers brings a unique blend of familiarity and novelty to the role.
Grint’s return follows in the footsteps of Tom Felton, who has recently taken on his film role as Draco Malfoy in the Broadway production. Felton is set to continue his stage performance until January. The Cursed Child, which debuted in London in 2016, has become a global sensation with over 14 million tickets sold worldwide and the New York production alone generating over $532 million.
This Broadway engagement marks another chapter in Grint’s stage career, following his debut in 2014 with the comedy It’s Only a Play. Since his time in the Harry Potter films, Grint has expanded his acting portfolio with roles in projects like Knock at the Cabin, Charlie Countryman, and Nightborn.
Grint’s return to the wizarding world coincides with the development of a new Harry Potter television series for HBO, aimed at introducing the beloved story to a new generation of viewers.
